Greetings Friends:
It’s been a minute since I last posted my Health Is Wealth revelation post in which I mentioned I would give weekly updates on my workouts and transformation progress. Well you may have noticed I haven’t added any updates since that post was written back in August.
I have to admit that the weekly updates and vlogging was an aggressive schedule. However, I do want to give you all an update today on how I’m doing, where I’m at so far with the transformation, and my goals ahead.
I started tracking my weight on August 20 through my Fitbit app and as of today I’m happy to say I’ve lost 18.8 lbs!
A big help for achieving this weight loss was the benefit of having my wife start her own healthy transformation at the same time. Together we’ve both been on track with eating healthy and maintaining strict portion control.
Portion Control
I would say your diet, portion control, encompasses about 70% of the overall battle for losing weight and maintaining your health. Starting at 236lbs, for a 6’2″ male, I needed to consume approximately 2300 calories a day to maintain my weight.
By reducing the calories you consume on a daily basis, the body starts to hunt for other calories, and finds them in stored fat.
The reduced portions were painful at first but now my wife and I are easily satiated after dinner.
Exercise
I started a Beachbody on Demand workout program in August but my work schedule interfered with getting a consistent time to workout in the evenings. Because of this I took a hiatus from the weights and high-impact cardio. I still walk at least twice a day however which keeps keep my metabolism running throughout the day. Yes, the majority of my weight loss so far has come from diet and portion control.
Fasting
Because I’ve not been consistent with high-impact exercises I started a minor fast in the morning to help reduce my daily caloric intake. First thing in the morning, I’ll drink 20oz of water. At 10am I’ll have a small organic strawberry breakfast-bar. By 12pm I’m starving and will have my lunch. I stick to this schedule religiously.
Results
Since the end of September the weight loss tapered off, but right now I’m averaging a loss of about 1lb each week with controlled portions, fasting breakfast, and walking.
I will say, skipping exercise is not ideal for me. I’m missing the endorphins high-impact exercise gives me. My sleep schedule is also completely shot as I returned to working late hours. I will start to rein this in starting this week.
Regarding a weekly progress vlog, I’ll try and do my best to try and provide some content but I wont put a guarantee on a weekly schedule for now. Once I get back to a consistent schedule I’ll start blogging/vlogging an update for you all.
If you’ve gotten this far in reading this I do appreciate you taking the time. If you have any specific questions about the details of what I’m doing, (e.g. portion control methods, supplementation, etc.) please feel free to ask.
